Multi-Timestep Simulations

VISRAD can perform multi-timestep simulations. This allows users to conveniently set up time-dependent values for a variety of parameters, including:

• object sizes
• object albedos
• object x-ray conversion efficiencies
• object powers (self-emission)
• object laser reflectivities
• laser beam powers

Time-dependent quantities are set up using two-column tables.

VISRAD can perform a full simulation for a series of times specified by the user. (Note that since VISRAD computes radiosities using steady-state power balance equations, the results at any given time are independent of the results at other times.)

Steps in configuring a time-dependent simulation include setting up:

• time-dependent object parameters (see Object Parameters Dialog)
• time-dependent laser beam parameters (see Laser Beam Parameters Dialog)
• the simulation time grid
• simulation configuration parameters

After setup is completed, the simulation can be run by selecting Simulation | Run.
